Links to various tools for evaluating text:
- The “PlotWrench” story visualization suite (word clouds, word trees, and various other methods of charting/graphing ideas, themes and plot) is currently in beta testing and should be available for download soon. For now, the links and programs listed below are some of the various machineries I commonly use to evaluate my own writing and the writing of those playwrights I support in development at labs and in the MFA program where I teach.
- “Many Eyes” is a data visualization toolbox developed by IBM. A writer can simply dump passages into a box and out pops a variety of charts and graphs showing patterns the computer detects in the text. It is primarily used by scientists to parse geographical and other scientific data. http://www-958.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/manyeyes/
- MindNode is an interesting program for charting/developing/outlining story: http://www.mindnode.com/
